City2Surf with AIMGA Aug 2019

The City2Surf (or City to Surf) is one of the most iconic events in Sydney. Described as a “fun race”, it is a 14-kilometer course that attracts community participants, professional runners and families. More than 80,000 people take part in this event and are divided into different categories, based on their option to walk or just stroll to the finishing line. Most importantly, this race (now known as the Sun-Herald City2Surf) has raised more than $40 million AUD for charities, since 2008.
This year, on Sunday 11th August 2019, AIMGA members, their families and friends, came together as a large team of thirty participants, and walked to the finish line. The AIMGA participants, wearing the bright blue AIMGA tee-shirts (made especially for this event) gathered outside the St. James station for a few photographs and selfies, before taking off with thousands of people towards the finish line at Bondi beach. It was a cold but a beautiful morning. The camaraderie and joy among the AIMGA participants, before the start of the race, can be best described as infectious, with words of mutual encouragement pouring in thick and fast. Some walked at a slower pace while some picked up a brisk pace during the walk. Irrespective of the pace and the fitness levels, everyone reached the finish line with broad smiles etched on every face. The event was rounded up at a Thai restaurant where AIMGA participants enjoyed delectable food, wines and beer accompanied by the usual cheerful chatter and bonhomie!
We are hoping that this enthusiastic participation grows in the coming years, with more AIMGA members, their families and friends joining in for the City2Surf race – not only for the wonderful walk but also to raise money for some worthy charitable causes.
